Samsung HM320JI burned PCB

Greetings All,

I have a PCB with some burned spots on a Samsung HM320JI F/W S2200_00. Can anyone tell me if there is adaptive info stored in the burned chips? (PC3K doesn't have any diagrams for this particular model, so I'm not sure what they are. )

Can I replace them from another HM320JI with a different F/W (S2200_01 or S2200_07)?

These are fuses/protection resistors. There is some sort of shortcircuit on the pcb.

Thanks, Dobre. The laptop was dropped, so that probably explains the shortcircuit.

I think the problem is elsewhere.

Anyway, if you are lucky enough you can replace just the PCB , if it doesn't come ready or clicks or have strange diagnostic errors, there is incompatibility.

ROTFLMAO.

The vertically mounted part is either a fuse or an inductor, or a low ohm resistor.

The horizontally mounted part is probably a 5V TVS diode.

One part will be shorted, the other open. I'll leave you to determine which is which.

Please accept my apology. Judging by your expensive equipment, and by the length of time (8 months) that you've been a forum member, I thought you were a DR pro. If you've been watching this forum as often as I have, you'll see what sort of ridicule has been dished out to us novices, and you'll understand why I feel that pros are fair game. OTOH, I treat novices with the patience they expect, and I provide detailed explanations whenever I can. That said, you really shouldn't be handling someone's precious data if you don't at least have a rudimentary understanding of electronics. You can't fix everything from behind a keyboard. ;-)

No worries, fz. As you pointed out, I've been here long enough to know the dynamics (and characters) of this group.

I don't consider myself a pro yet (maybe in another 3-4 years). Yes, I have invested in some equipment and am repairing/recovering drives. But, I do know my limitations and do not touch a client's drive if it has a problem beyond my capabilities. I'm very much a novice who has spent the better part of a year studying, researching, reading on this site and elsewhere.

In the case of this particular PCB (you're right, I don't know basic electronics), I am just trying to get an appropriate replacement PCB so I can outsource that part of the repair. There is a local electronics shop whom I trust to do the actual repair, they just said I need to get the right parts, hence my question on this forum.

All that being said, I'm assuming BlackST is correct that the problem is elsewhere. But first things first. So, which hammer should I use to put in the new HSA? Rubber mallet or ballpeen?

I prefer Hilti hammers and percussion drills

In any case part of FW is in the embedded rom, part on platters.... and everything must match.
