Write NV-Ram on HTS5410609AS Kills board--Why?

July 7th, 2010, 14:00

I don't know why this happens; every times that I write nv-ram on a board, it renders it dead. I don't know if it is a pc3000 issue or just this model.

Has anybody seen this issue before?

I have attached the nv-ram file; If anybody in the US has this board, please let me know.

MLC:DA1340 board: 0A26800 DA1189B--nv-ram has to be same.

Thanks guys

Have you read the NVRAM externally AFTER writing to see the differences ? What happened exactly?
In any case if you have backed it up BEFORE, it's no problem (maybe you must use an external programmer).

P.S. did you ask the support at ACE about this issue ?

Thanks for the reply. I have not read it externally. I only use pc3000 to read it. The drive was clicking. Did head exchange, and it was behaving same way. Just wanted to see how it would behave with its nv-ram on another board. I have tried to write other nv-ram of same model on other boards--they resulted same--dead.

I may need to get an external programmer and ask ACE about the issue.

This drive's board is very sensitive.

PCB isn't compat with NV RAM. You should be able to write back other NV RAM.

I don't think either there's "sensitivity" or "incompatibility" of the board in this case , but either the problem is in the procedure or something strange happens during NVRAM work , as seems that the problem is recursive.

On other families I had no problems during NVRAM work - working with custom tools now. And still prefer to connect NVRAM to external programmer for working, except in case I have to perform automated partial / rebuild from SA (for speed).

I have written a lot of nv-rams on Hitachi laptop drives. There was no error on write. It writes ok, but after turning off drive--it becomes dead. It has to be something wrong with this family of drives.

The PCBs are only one letter off; so compatibility is not an issue.

It is odd. I was just wondering if somebody has seen this issue.

from experience I have wrote NV RAM to a board, NV RAM when read and checked contains no data, pcb comes ready instantly, I'm sure NV RAM can be re-written with compat NV RAM for that pcb.

Update:
This is more bizarre. Even as the drive is dead, I tried to write back its nv-ram--Boom! power is back on.

Something to ponder.

Why the nv-ram would not work on a close model?
