FIRMWARE NEED FOR WD800JD - 60LSA0

July 13th, 2010, 14:28

Hello,

I have a WD800 - 60lSA0 Western Digital 80GB drive that has started to be recognized as a
WDC ROM MODEL UNICORN 6.2GB drive.
Unit Serial Number: N/A
Firmware Number: 1D07
Capacity: 6.21 GB
The drive does spin and make a click sound but does not get recognized as a usable drive. It used to be a primary drive, that I have since moved to a an external USB drive to try and recover the data.

I have read through the forum looking for similar issues. Is this a firmware issue or is the drive totally gone?

I am new to the forum and any ideas would be appreciated. I have tried some RAW Data Recovery programs unsuccessfully.
:D

Hard Drives are not like mobile phones, you can't simply update the firmware to fix it.

It's likely the heads have failed in your drive given your description of the symptoms.

Thanks CK, I have a ten albums of the same model with the same fault why discard head failure. Also all failed at the same time. I could see in another post of a similar case where someone could update the firmware with a PC3000 card.

"update" is a term used to describe a process where you would update the firmware with a newer version.

System Area on HDD's is a very complex area and you cannot simply update it, as it contains drive specific information.

Did all drives fail at the exact same time? Were they in PC's or external casings?

should all be damaged the same month last year, all were in different pc, I guess it's a manufacturing fault, as I can retrieve the data?

Thanks!
