seagate 7200.10 PATA not found in BIOS

July 13th, 2010, 17:09

hi ive searched the forums but cant find the answer to this.
hdd info
seagae barracuda 7200.10 PATA 500GB
s/n ST3500630A
p/n 98J046-305
f/w 3.AAE
Date code 07407
site code WU
made in china

the drive spins up clicks every few seconds for a couple of mis then turns itself off. when on a usb adaptor & is not recognised by the BIOS when fitted in a pc. i just want to run it to get the data off it then it can go in the bin.
seagate dont have this drive listed for free data recovery.
ive read about the rs232 & hyperterminal but this seems to be for SATA drives not PATA.

any help would be apprecated.
Dan

This drive is 7200.10 not 7200.11 (the one which suffers from the FW problem fixable by RS232)

Sounds much more like bad heads on this one.

The more you hammer it with bad heads, the more chance of the platters being damaged and lessening the recovery chances.

Not recognized in BIOS is not a good thing. Most likely damaged. Clicking is most likely "Click of Death". If the data is very important get professional help otherwise move on to a new drive (or two, one for backup :D ). Was it dropped?

Indeed, like the heads have failed.

Not a DIY fix I'm afraid, seek your nearest pro, there are a few guys from the UK on this forum who can help you for a reasonable fee. Be prepared, DR on a physical drive is not cheap.

100% heads problem / SA (or both). No DIY.
