Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hello,
We have an old Maxtor HDD Romulus series (I actually have not the exactly model).
It's clicking. We've swapped the HSA with a donor and the problem is the same.
We have swapped the patient HSA on the donor HDD and the donor HDD is working.
So, we consider there is no problem with the HSA.
We think this is a firmware issue. We have done a complete backup of the firmware donor, loader, ram (same hdd).
We've changed the jumper to safe mode for the patient HDD. We can send the donor loader to the patient HDD ram and get the map.
But after, it's not possible to repair or replace the different module. We think we have an issue with the SA.
We use Atola Insight to these operations.
Have you some suggestion or solution for this problem ?
Thank you very much in advance for your answer.

I read no problem the donor modules.
I've setted the patient HDD in SAFE MODE. Then, I've loaded the loader in RAM from the donor files.
I can read a little part of some modules but Atola indicate "Read Failed". The HDD is already clicking when it try to access to the SA.
The backup modules of the donor are OK .
What is the procedure in this case to resolve the problem?
If the SA has too many bad sectors, is that there is no way to update the modules and access users datas ?
And whats modules have to be updated ? G-List ? P-List ? All ?
Thank you in advance for your help.

If the SA has to many bad sectors, you can use the hotswap method.

You can also check pcb sometimes clicking can be caused due to pcb problems as well .

We've seen that if I load different loader of donor in RAM, the access of the modules are different.
With some loader, I can access in read of a few modules not all but never in write.
Do you think that if I havn't exactly the same loader of the patient HDD, it's not works ?

Do you think that something like HD Doctor for Maxtor may solve the problem?
For example to copy the SA-C module to SA-A, SA-C ?
Thank you for your answers if you have had similar experiences.
