WD5000AAJS won't spin up, PCB swap?

July 19th, 2010, 5:14

Hello everybody,

a collegue gave me his HDD with photos and stuff wich won't spin up anymore. It makes periodical clicks, but no spin up sound and BIOS says 'no drives found'. I'am familiar to electronis but not with HDDs so my first joice would be to swap the PCB with a working one. Do I have to swap the ROM to? Is there any other testing I can do like monitoring the motor-supply?

HDD details:
MDL: WD5000AAJS-22YFA0
DATE: 10 SEP 2007
DCM: HHNCNT2AHN
PCB: 2061-701477-100 AB

Thanks, Johannes.

HI
if u have Pro. Tools like PC3000 or salvation tools through u can access Rom then u can do, just PCB swap will not work.

You should listen more carefully, I believe the spindle IS working. IF not spinning, then no air pressure is there to lift heads and release head latch so would not click...

I have just electronic development equipment like Osci etc. but I could swap the ROM by desolder/solder. Can this work?
