Recover MJA2500BH (2,5" SATA 500GB) with encrypted partition

August 4th, 2010, 6:38

Hi there!

I've got a crashed HDD from which I need to backup / recover the data.
Here the details:

- Fujiutsu MJA2500BH (SATA 2,5" 500GB) from a "Platinum MyDrive USB-drive"
- fabrication date 12/2009
- PCB-Label "214EE CA21350-B12X" and "MDK 339V-0 N"
- 3 Partitions
-- Partition 1 and 2 NTFS and/or FAT32 (sorry, I don't remember!)
-- Partition 3 completly encrypted by TrueCrypt

Symptoms:
(1 - USB / XP)
Starting WinXP Pro, plugging in the HDD via USB-to-SATA-Controller (from the Platinum MyDrive).
The HDD spins up right, good sound, computer is blocked then for about 15 or 20 minutes, after that the two partitions show up, the PC is very slow - the drives ar not accessible.

(2 - SATA / XP)
Connecting the HDD to the SATA-Controller on the Mainboard, starting the Computer. HDD is NOT recognized in BIOS. On screen appears message:
"VIA VT8237 Serial ATA RAID BIOS v4.5 - Scan Devices - Please Wait..."
After one minute or so: "Hardware initiate failed, check device. The Bios does not be installed. Press <g> to continue."
The Windows XP beginns to load, but hangs up early in the starting process.

(3 - MHDD)
If I do it like described in (2) but using the MHDD-Boot-CD The drive is correctly recognized on position 6. When I press
"6" to select it, and F2 afterwards to gather information, MHDD hangs. Even the clock of MHDD (on the right buttom of the
screen) stopps to run. The HDD spins, but no noises of head-movement are to be heard. MHDD shows [ --- LBA --- ] and marks DRSC and DRDY (blue) and BUSY (green). I let it like this for 3 hours, but nothing changed.

I also tried to change the PCB, please view the short topic here

I hope, these informations are detailled enough, so that somebody is able to help me to recover my data.

THANKS A LOT !!!

The problem is not the controller, you need pro assistance / recovery.

Hi BlackST,

what do you mean by "pro assistance / recovery" ?

Do you mean "professional help" or the software "HDD Recovery Pro" or something?

(Why) are you sure, it's a physical damage of the disk?

Many thanks an kind regards,
Ikea

PROFESSIONAL RECOVERY not DIY software. The disk itself may be Ok but there is an internal problem for sure.

In any case you need proper diagnose with PROFESSIONAL EQUIPMENT (of course if you really want data back).
