If you need to scan a SCSCI drive and have a adaptec compatible SCSCI PCI card isntalled in your system then choose Start with Adaptec SCSCI- otherwise choose without.
Either way- nothing will blow up.

PS Backup your data

i tried both but then i get an error:
"the drive does not support LBA mode or not detected"

Well then- we need more information about the history and the specs of the drive.
I suggest not plugging it in any more - but are you sure the ide cable is ok and plugged in properly or sata?
does the drive knock / click - does it show in bios?

the drive is WD 5000AAKS 500GB 7200 16MB. i'm pretty sure it's plugging ok, but i'll check it again. the drive doesn't knock / click, it doesn't make any sound (but it's alive, for now).

If you need data, I would suggest to stop playing with it and seek for a professional advice. You can try contacting Peter (pepe) on this forum. He is in your reach.
