Hitachi HTS541616J9SA00 need help or advice.

August 11th, 2010, 16:51

I have my friends harddisk Hitachi HTS541616J9SA00.

Seems working, shows in bios.

If connected to the external controller hangs up for a minute or more and says that it s not formatted.

Friend said the partition suddenly disappeared.

I Found out that it had some bad sectors.

Adviced scanning it with "Victoria 4" - he did, found and recovered some sectors but there were too many then after 1 hour of work the battery was dead and pc was restarted.

I Decided to try different recovery programs to get info

from the lost partition. Tryed almost all that I have (Around 20 stk - some cant find any information after scan, some freeze after 15% of scan together with the computer, only one found 5

gigs of images, docs and videos but after recovery they are unaccessible. I cant open them anyhow.

The question is - should I continue recovery and if yes how? and what can I do in order to get at least something from that hd.

Any help or advice is welcome.

A single head failure is common with this series. Continuing to try to recover data directly from this drive (without diagnosing and fixing the underlying problem) can overtax it and it can die prematurely.
