Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hello Everybody,
I'm very new to Forum's, and not sure of the etiqet (sorry).
Can someone please help me? my WD2500JB has failed.
On board chip U1 burnt out. How can I retrieve data on HDD to another HDD.
If card replacement needed, any idea where I can get one from, and how much?
Drive details are:
MDL: wd2500jb-22gvco
date: 8 May 2005
DCM: HSBACVJAH
Details on PCB:
2060-701265-001 REV A
Sticky label says: 2061-701265-200AH
Many Thanks,
Papasmurf

When replacing the board, you may need to transplant the 8-pin serial EEPROM chip at U12 from patient to donor. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, your local TV/AV repairer should be able to do it for you.

Hi fzabkar,
If I get another card which is a direct replacement (same ref nos), does u12 still need replacing?
Will I damage the new card if I try it first without changing u12?
Many Thanks,
Simon.

I'm not a DR guy, but my understanding is that, if the adaptives are not closely matched, the drive will click, but there is no risk of damage to the card, or its firmware.
Good luck anyway.

Yes there is instead. The drive at startup updates some part in service area and in some case , as adaptives are different, writes badly. Then you have to fix the SA too later. Want to try ?

HI GUys,
I think I'll buy a new PCB and swap U12 to new card., then try it.
Hopefully that will sort it.
Found a card/drive on the web for approx $50.00 So might get that soon.
