Need help diagnosing a toshiba mk2555gsx

September 15th, 2010, 6:47

Dear all,

The drive is a Toshiba MK2555GSX.

Sometimes it comes on bios sometimes not. In mhdd it stays constantly on busy. No clicking noises. The head is seeking but the drive does not initialize.

Swapped pcb with an identical drive but the problem remains the same.

What could it be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First off you cannot board swap Toshiba's unless you transfer the adaptive chip.

Second It is most likely a head problem.

Thank you for the advice. Did the head swap and the drive imaged fine with a few bad sectors.
