WD Caviar problem: WD1000BB-75CHE0

I have a WD1000BB-75CHE0 that makes a clicking sound and then slows down and stops.

MHDD gives the following results:

SN: some rubbish FW: 22.04A CACHE: 8192 Kb
SUPPORTS: MS16 SIZE: 0 Mb

Does not support LBA mode.
MHDD will not work with this device

Has anybody some advice for me?

Most likely heads are damaged and the ID you see is partial ID from ROM

Professional diagnosis is required for a more accurate diagnostic...

Agree with HDDGuy Heads might Damage do u have Professional Tools ? if not send to any Pro.DR company DIY will not work on it .

Yes, I was afraid for that but the topic of BGman gave me some hope:

In the case of WD drives I have found a relatively easy way to identify drives with broken heads. Just put the drive in safe mode and use the ID command (MHDD). If the drive reports the same model as on the label the heads are OK, if not - there is a head broken.
For example WD400EB could identify itself as WD1000BB (no good heads) or WD200EB (1 good head).

Hi,
On those drives it's very common with bad Pcb's.
As you have access to pc3000, put the pcb in kernel, read out the rom, find a good pcb with the same number 2060-001102-xxx and replace the rom (or desolder the u2 chip, and replace on donor).
I have this in stock if you need donor for heads:
W0035, 1000BB, 75CHE0, 13-okt-01, HSEHBT2CH, 2060-001102-002
