Toshiba MK3008GAL shows in Windows not Linux; MHDD init fail

September 25th, 2010, 9:53

This is odd. I repair iPods and have a Toshiba MK3008GAL that is dead in iPod-land but shows fine in PC BIOS, then loads, boots reads and writes in DOS and Windows but in MHDD [INIT] returns "disk not responding or operation canceled" error. But waiting that out allows a scan and the disk is perfect.

In Linux (Ubuntu HH), no trace which is really odd. Obviously the iPod OS and Linux are calling the drive in some similar way (which makes sense) that DOS is not and exposing a flaw that MHDD is also finding. It must be fixable but how? Any clues for a noob, links to Toshiba-specific tools etc?

Thank in advance
