Access to HD on dead Laptop

I hope this is the right spot for this question. I have a laptop that I beat to death in a fit of fury (Toshiba) so now the piece-of-you-know-what wont start. Stupid me, I need a few files from that laptop. Is there any way to take the HD out of it and connect it to my new computer (iMac) and access the old HD? I´m not very technically proficient so please bear that in mind if you are kind enough to help out Thanks!

Anger management classes might help

If you beat it to death whilst the drive was powered on and spinning it doesn't sound promising

You need to find an USB case and try to connect it with it to your mac. Is the disk didn't get damaged, you can access your data.

certainly, you can take it out. If you struggling to take it out- waht model Toshiba is it?I can post some pics to help you.
You need to check if its IDE or SATA and get the correct USB enclosure.

Your Mac should be able to detect the hard drive--- but i recommend using another Windows based computer or your Mac might end up all fucked up too..

Hi to all three responders above, thanks for swift replies!

The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L350 if Im not mistaken. I dont know if the HD is shot, the PC tries to start up with an ominous sounding clicking (constant), then lets me know there is "no bootable device". I hope that doesnt sound too bad...

I have no idea if its IDE or SATA, assuming this is type of HD, will it say on the HD when I take out?

Also, what is a USB case/USB enclosure, some kind of hub? USB cable from laptop - to USB case - USB cable to iMac/other computer?

Up until you mentioned the clicking sound it was no problem.... You may have won that fight but the victim wants to take its secrets to the grave. If that drives clicking get help- there are some amazing folks here.

Agreed. The ominous clicking is not something that can be done with a DIY job. Considering this and your level of knowledge I see no option but for you to seek a professional's help.

Yea if it clicking you might have a serious problem in trying to access the data.
THis are very similar deisigns to your l350 and taking the hdd out is simple 2 screws remove pull toward your self/ or pull upwards.

Turn on the notebook and put you ear near the place where the HDD should be- if the ticking is definitely coming form the HDD then its bad luck

other wise try this...

If you connect the hdd to that and it clicking/ticking/knocking.. Bad luck mate. You will need to find a specialist.

Ayayayay, I guess an anger management class is a good idea Or just avoid MS products (why do you think I snapped). Well, I´ll take the HD out and try to connect it, or find a company who can help me out. Thanks for all the advice guys! Really appreciate it!
