Do you have an idea of the potential complications involved with this? And the difficulty even if you do get a comaptible part?

I don't get those kind of posts?
Head swaps involve know how, a clean room and some expensive gear.. no?
If one really 'needs' his data from a drive I would suspect to achieve this he either ..
1) is a pro who has the gear and know how (then the format of the OP is very bad style) or
2) is a 'noob' who better should go to above mentioned pro to increase the chances of data retrieval.

Hi,

NO NEED TO SHOUT!
Have you tried going back to the original purchase point to see if there are any left?

Sorry i am not shouting i'm used to typing in caps always.

Yes i did go but they don't have any stock here in the market.
Is there any how i can get help from here.

Or other solutions for getting all the data back without replacing the head.

Last time I need parts for one of these, I just went to my local PC store and bought a 1Tb external drive, and it had exactly the right part inside to perfom the head swap.

All data successfully retrieved.

Did you get the same version of hard drive or was it different model.

I am getting millions of 1tb hard drives but with different serial numbers, st number and pn numbers.

Well sorry as i am not an computer expert, the people i took my hard drive for data recovery insist on same above mentioned details.

Moreover my hard drive was bought almost a year back, so this model is no longer available. There is a newer version of seagate hard drives out now slimer ones.

If your data recovery guys are insisting on a donor drive with the same serial number, I would take it elsewhere.

Hi Muhammed,

Your drive seems to be intact. I mean, the MHA seal is not opened from the picture posted. How a head failure was confirmed then? What was the symptom that prompted you to send for data recovery?

The few seconds clicking noise and not booting of the drive plus not showing in my computer when i check for it there.

I sent it to some company here in Dubai who confirmed this to me.

I'g get a second opinion, the symptoms you have posted could be heads, but could also be a few other much less difficult things. What happened just before, during and just after it died?

For my Money, it put it on a courier to Sean in England (PCImage). If a spare is required he can source that for you and I know he can do the 1TB head swap :) you might also find somebody closer who can give you a second opinion on the fault, before you get charged for a non recovery!

The "3" in the model number, ST91000430AS, indicates that the drive has 3 platters.

I believe the serial number, 9YE05A2D, indicates the manufacturing location (9 = Thailand), platter type and density (Y), and head stack type or number of heads (E). If correct, then could there be other models in similar families that may suffice ???
