How old is your drive?
Manufacturer and model of the drive?
If its old, get a new one.

Does your BIOS recognize that drive?
Jumper/s set correctly?

If you install an OS you can choose to make a fresh install and usually delete any existing partitions on the hdd.. ?!

You should also consider giving more information about what drive you got there, what it's actual status is, the environment (what do you try to do) and how it got into that status..
I mean, you want help. We don't have to pull every detail out of your nose to get you there.
