Fujitsu MHW2120BH CA06820-B38800AP

Friend's drive MHW2120BH CA06820-B38800AP failed with data not backed up. Is it necessary to get exactly the same PCB model (the few matching drives I've found are very expensive), or is it possible that a drive board that, say, begins with CA06820- might work?

Any help is appreciated.

Steve

Thanks for responding!

The drive makes a repetitive clicking sound and isn't recognized by BIOS. I've tried it both in it's original Mac Book and connected to a PC. I ordered a replacement board, but realized after that it wasn't the right board (it's B40700C1 instead of B38800AP) but I didn't know any better at the time. I found an identical drive online, but it's $178, which is a bit of a high price.

Very unlikely to be PCB on this.

Much much more likely to be bad heads, and possibly media damage too, especially if you've let it click for some time.

Don't waste your money on a new PCB.

And probably will be a waste of time and money to get a new drive to swap anything else.
Without the proper experience you don't have much chances on that one.
