I need help with Seagate ST96812A

December 2nd, 2010, 6:15

Hi all,

I need help with a seagate ST96812A (MERC2 - Momentus 5400.2 - 60 Gb - 2.5")

SN: 3PJ
FW: 3.06
Site AMK

With start-up the heads click 3 times and after a while the disc spins down. The drive does not come ready.

The terminal gives the following output:

Interface task reset
4096k x 16 buffer detected
MERC2 - 1_Disk 0.05 01
Buzz - -20-06 15:53
Head Mask 00,01 - Head Mask 00,05 - Head Mask 00,06 - Head Mask 00,07 - Head Mask 00,08 - Head Mask 00,09 - Head Mask 00,0A - Head Mask 00,0B - Head Mask 00,0C - Head Mask 00,0D -

I have changed the heads (from a working donor) but the terminal gives exactly the same results.

Any proposals? Thanks.

What tools do you have. This will help to give you an idea of what to do next. Do you use Atola, ACE. or SD? If no tools you are just reading from terminal connector.

To me, the fact it is showing Age 00 and mxhd 31 makes me think about serious sa corruption or the drive was badly wanked by someone before sending to the op... No wonder it is clicking.
