Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I have a case with a Seagate LP drive model ST31500541AS stuck on BSY
the currents look fine from the occilloscope in Atola insight so I guess it's a version of the usual firmware bug.
In the terminal i get
Rst 0x20M
LED:000000CD FAddr:00006CCB
LED:000000CD FAddr:00006CCB
but crtl+Ζ doesn't work to interact with the drive. Any insights?
Thanks in advance for your help.

ththeod, I think you need to check your PCB first.

Check if you PCB is native.
Then if it is, you can try to follow up unlock procedure, but you must short the read channel.

Sorry i forgot to update it as solved, it was fixed using the r/w channel short method using the same pcb, I just didn't find the short points at that time and it had a new pcb. Thanks for your concern!

Also the only thing I get in the terminal is
Rst 0x20M
(P) SATA Reset

If you get that on terminal the drive should go to ready no ?
October 19th, 2011, 6:22
No, after power on, BIOS can not recognize this drive. It is not detected by BIOS anytime.

Later I'll write more detailed information, how I try to get connected to the terminal of this drive.

So, crtl+Ζ works, it is needed just to press right after
Rst 0x20M, before
(P) SATA ResetBIOS can not recognise HDD, and it does not continue booting, if HDD attached, it gets stuck trying to detect HDD.
Here is the pictures of PCB

And can you run any commands while it's BSY ?
October 20th, 2011, 4:05
Yes, no problems with executing commands. E.g. U and Z works fine.

Have you tried to regenerate translator?
October 20th, 2011, 5:39
No, I did not try to use m0,6,2,,,,,22
October 20th, 2011, 7:29
Try to clear Smart and then regenerate translator.
October 20th, 2011, 11:19
I know one data recovery pro in Kazan, you might want to consider taking your drive to him if data is important.
October 20th, 2011, 13:49
No, data is not important.
I just want to bring back HDD to working state.
