Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi
I have this HD, that doesn't spin up, so it's not detected. No Strange noises, or clicking.
I tested the PCB on another WD500BEVT drive (this disk has bad heads, but spining and is detected) and it spins too, so no PCB problem, right?
I measured the motor coil resistance, and it's exactly the same between the 2 HD's.
What can this be?
Thanks

I've been through this before.
PCB:
- donor PCB spins the drive, but does not come ready
- client PCB spins donor, but does not come ready
- transfer ROM to donor PCB, does not spin
Heads:
- change heads, drive has same symptoms
Motor:
- move the platters, drive still has the same symptoms
The one case I had like that, I don't recall if I ever did figure it out. I think it is on my shelf of, "must take some time to figure it out," projects.
I'd love to know if you do figure it out.

This is where you need to look.
Could be ROM is not being read properly during POST, could be that the ROM has somehow become corrupted, and the MCU is seeing it as a mismatch or something.
Read ROM contents to a file, check contents for garbage. Compare to the "working" ROM.

Hi Russwinters
The drive is not recognized. How can I read the ROM? Only if I read it on a flash reader, right?
@LCoughey
I hope to get it to
Thanks for your all your help.

No set to kernal mode in udma. Try this one and see what happens on it.

Just remembered I had this case open.
Well: the problem was on the platters. Completely scratched
