Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I have a pair of Samsung SP2504C 232.9GB HDs configured as a single C Drive (Striped RAID, not my choice, the PC was just built that way). One of the pair is showing 'There Is A Problem' during boot, with no other information. Samsung offer 2 downloadable diagnostic utilities to run from CD-ROM, ESTOOL and HUTIL, but I can't understand what the differences are.
So which should I use? I can't even be sure that it is possible, or wise, to use either of these utilities on one disk in a RAID array, but I can't find a way of getting any response from Samsung, which is why I'm bothering you guys now.
BTW, although I have done my best to back up my data, both my external Seagate drive(s) are having problems all of their own! But that's a problem for another day.

On a RAID configuration if you think one disk is at fault the best is to not run a lot of utilities on it. I would suggest to you to get 2 new disk and another PC and clone your original disk to the new one. After this you can then use one of the recovery programs and reconsrruct your RAID configuration for you. You risk the chance of getting back data using or running utility disks on it. There was a reason you received this error message in the first place so clone them first to another disk before proceeding on.

EStool supports newer models than Hutil, but your drives are supported by both.
