Preamp on harddisk ribbon cables

February 4th, 2011, 14:20

Hi Dear,
Reading blogs about swapping platters and heads and I just found out that there may an easier solution but I need Ic specs. Especially preamps on ribbon cable on the armature. Can anyone tell where to go for such info.?

What I just found out is that you may be able to swap inputs and outputs on the preamp ic if the heads and platter are not damage. Found out that only half the ic is being used so if that is damage then bypassing the faulty inputs and outputs maybe worth a try, keeping and hoping the voice activated coil is ok.

I remember doing that 20 years ago, but on a very different class of hard drive.

These days I have trouble even seeing the ICs, let alone manipulating them.
