Samsung Spinpoint 1TB x2 (PCB Problems)

I have two samsung spinpoint 1tb drives which failed last night. After searching around these forums I found that the problem was indeed in the diode.

I removed the diode and I am getting good readings from both now.



The fuse is still present, just the black coating got scratched off when removing the diode

My question is, I think the Zero ohm link has also gone... What should I be testing for with a multimeter? And can I just bridge this if it is faulty?

Backup and get a new drive along with new Power supply.

Thats my plan I want to know if I'll have to bridge the fuse in order to power up my drives?

Even with the diode removed, the drive still wont power up. The fuse (in the blue rectangle in my diagram) doesnt read anything when tested on my multimeter.

So will I have to bridge the fuse to get it working?

When a fuse blows in your car, do you bridge it ?

When a fuse blows on VCR or TV, do you bridge it ?

If you bridged or used aluminum foil to bridge a fuse on whatever equipment, did it work or something else happened ?

Further damage to the drive will hurt ?

Then you can give yourself the answers.

Well... I really just need them to be working for long enough to get the data off.

I know its not a permenant fix. I just wanted to know if bridging this fuse would work, as I have read that there are differences between zero ohm resistors, and fuses ( even though technically they can serve the same purpose ).

My knowledge of electronics is pretty basic, Just needed to know if bridging this would get the drive running for long enough for me to grab the data.

P.S. coincidence : just arrived (few hours ago) a piece of equipment where the "genius" bridged the ever-blowing 4A fuse with stripped wire. What was a 50 EUR failure, has about 5 times multiplied the cost for repair. And they said sending it in "oh, by the way, at present when I just connect to the mains, it makes EVERYTHING shut down... THERE MUST BE SOMETHING BROKEN"...

Well, I decided to go ahead (Because I'm not paying £400 - £800) and it worked like a dream. Backing up everything onto some new drives now.

I found the problem ( a reversed molex ) first so I knew it wasn't going to blow again, I'm not stupid enough to just cram foil everywhere and hope
