WD5000AAVS - Quote for recovery?

February 13th, 2011, 2:44

Hi folks,

I've read the forums through and it seems that the WD5000AAVS hard-drive is common for failing (especially the drive heads). It's originally from a MyBook enclosure, but I took it out of the enclosure to make sure that the power board wasn't the issue.

Basically, it spins up, clicks several times and then spins down... after doing this several times, it stays silent.

There is data in the hard-drive that I would really like to recover - mainly multiple pictures that I've taken over the past 3-4 years, in addition to some documents here and there. I've seen some names crop up over the forums that can repair hard-drives, but who would be the closest to me? (I'm in Canada :D)

Thanks for the help folks, I really appreciate it!

yes sounds like head failure in your case. You can contact Starling I think he is closest to you and has been in the DR industry for a long time. Also you can try and contact Luke = lcoughey he is in Ontario.
