Broken Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320GB

February 15th, 2011, 22:28

Hello

I think I have a problem in the PCB: hdd is not recognized by BIOS and when I tried to exchange by another PCB (same hdd model but apparently different PCB revision) I got it recognized but it appeared as a 0GB when using recovery data software.
Also, it doesn't make any strange noises or something like this.

I read about some KEZ TVS diode, located one and measured it in the 200ohm range (measured directly in component terminals) but the resistence was "infinite", which makes me think it's ok.

I don't know what to do next. Before trying to find another PCB donor (which I think will be a PITA to find in my country) I would like to know if there is a way to repair the PCB by extracting some burned sacrifice component or something "easy" like this.
I can take hdd pictures if it would help.

I think it's still under warranty, but I want the data and Seagate will not provide support for this, right?

Sorry for my bad English.
Thank you.
