Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Dear Everyone,
My Samsung P120S hard disk (200GB SATA) stopped working couple of days ago. Computer I am using is HP D330 Desktop with Microsoft Windows 7 OS. Important to mention that my computer was regular at experiencing improper shutdowns (on average 2,3 times every day). Also, there were electricity fluctuations as well (on the day hdd crashed). It neither show up in the setup nor I was able to boot from it. I tried it on my brother's computer too, but it did not show up even over there.
I purchased a new hdd and also bought SATA to USB 2.0 cable and tried connecting my old hdd to my computer. With the USB interface, I was able to see the drives and the data two times and after that I am not able to see anything. The disk is not making any clicking etc. sounds when I power it up. I am a newbie in trying hdd troubleshooting so if I need to provide any other information about the disk (or anything else) I will be ready to do that.
I had extremely precious data on my disk. Any help in this regard will be something I will never forget.
Thanks in anticipation.
Saad
