Help! Why the bad sector is still there after Lformat?

February 18th, 2011, 11:32

I have a 160G seagate HDD, there is a bad sector at 5% position, then I tried to low level format this HDD using Lformat, but it is still there, nothing fixed.

Can any guru answer the following three questions:

1. Can it be fixed thoroughly? What should I do, so I can still use this hard drive? turn it into 140G?
2. What kind of problem it is with my HDD at 5% position?(Physical bad sector?)
3. What Lformat did try and why it could not fix it?

Thanks for your tutoring.

Please explain your analysis in more detail.

What program are you using to find that "bad sector"? Please provide that evidence.

What exactly do you mean by "Lformat"?

Do you have the full SMART data (inlcuding raw counter values) from this disk? If so, please supply. If not, then please gather and then supply.
