BUSY flag flickering on WD2500BEVS

Hi everybody,

first i want so say: Data is not important, i'm just curious and it would be nice if the drive would be usable again.
I got a WD2500BEVS that is really unstable, i got it from a computer with power failure. If i just start MHDD and look at the flags the drive seems to be in a BUSY-State most of the time. But irregularly the drive gets ready and i'm able to get data out of it, like smart-data or the first few sectors. The pictures show both ways the drive is changing it flags. Sometimes they flicker a few times in one or two seconds, sometimes it stays BUSY for 10 seconds or gets ready for 10 seconds, its a wild guess what will happen next.

My question is, what could be the problem? Could this be a firmware problem? Then why is it happening, what makes the drive go ready and busy in this strange way?
Or could it be a bad/weak head? Then why is it flickering while nothing is requested from it?

I hope some pro's (and those who want to become pro's) can help me diagnose this drive and help me understand why this strange error is happening. I just want to understand it.

Check you PCB. If it comes ready and you are getting off some info on the drive then it is not FW problem on this one. Busy means power issues to the HDD and especially if it came out of a PC that was burned. You might be able to repalace some parts that are unstable on your PCB such as TVS and some resisters if they are not working correctly. But to me it is cheaper and safer to buy a new HDD and move on and forget this one. You are only asking for trouble to play around with it and try to use it again.
