WD800BB PCB fault

February 23rd, 2011, 11:57

Hi there!

I have my old WD800 near death since 1 year. I have checked the PCB and an IC is "burned".

Since that I search a living HD with the same serie (WD800BB-00CAA1) and DCM (HSEHNA2AH) for switch the PCB.
I have never found the exact DCM.

I have found this forum yesterday and if I have correctly understood several answers, if I found a WD800BB-00CAA1 and switching the EEPROM, that PCB will be ok for my HD. Is it correct ?

Best regards.

Match the board number it is printed on the board in green or grey letter. You just need to match your board number on this one and reprogram the ROM or move it over to your new board. First off if your TVS is burned you can try to remove it and see what happenes. But if it burns it burns for a reason and can kill the preamp inside of your heads on this one. If you do decide to remove it then your drive is no longer protected on this one.

The PCB numbers would be 2060-001092-006 or 2060-001092-007:

BTW, your PCB doesn't appear to have any TVS diodes:

Which chip is damaged on your PCB?

I remember that it's a 1inch SMD with a lot of pins.
I think it's the WDC's chip on the left (http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-14437584971410_2148_1397571). Not a simple component to switch.

There is only 2 possible PCB for the WD800BB HD?

I believe that's the read channel.

I don't know the answer to your question. You could ask the supplier at that link.

Alternatively, here is an old thread that may help:

Look on your PCB Board on this one. You will see stickers at top of it by power conncectors, then on the board itself you will see on left side printed on the board numbers. Use these to find what you need. They are not so easy to see first but you will find them. They are sometime in green or grey letters and seem like they blend into the board itself on this one
