Which chip did you transfer?

I think he is talking for the 8 leg IC near the top right.
Have you try the new PCB without moving it?
What you see in BIOS as drive name, f/w, capacity?

Yeah, I know that's the CORRECT one, just he'd moved the right one! ;-)

Not always necessary to move this chip, a lot of PCB's don't have one at all. As far as I know it's inter-release ROM fw modifications to the masked ROM in the MCU.

Like Samo says, is it seen PROPERLY in the BIOS?

hi yep it the 8 leg IC near the top right 25P10

the hard drive is seen in the boot up screen.

correct information etc

yep tried the new board with out removing the rom
but did not see it in windows or bios

but dont see the drive in windows

which is very weird

could it possible be a damaged headstack
as the motor driver chip was damaged :(

thank you guys

"Wrong. Turn on your PC3000."
Agree. Looks like a FW corruption.

hi not sure why it would be firmware damaged

as the only thing was at fault was the smooth chip
if it was firmware damaged then the drive in the bios would not show up correct

the board is new and all i swap was the rom over

if the hard drive had firmware issue the data compass would still pickup the drive
which its good for.

thanks
