Without special tools, I don't think you can solve it.

hi

Do you know if the password is the user password or the master password?

If only the user password is set, then you can unlock with the default master password.

http://ipv5.wordpress.com/2008/04/14/list-of-hard-disk-ata-master-passwords/

This page lists known ata master passwords, and he mentions “Seagate” +25 spaces as a possibility.

Hi.The HDD its from an satelite tunner.I dont know if the password is user or master password.

If its from a satelite tuner its quite possible the manufacturer has set a password so that the drive can only be used in the satelite tuner. If this is the case then they have likely set the master password.

I would suggest that you use either mhdd or atapwd to attempt to unlock the drive with the master password 'Seagate' + 25 spaces. If this does not work, the only other thing i can think to try is using the satelite tuner manufacturers name in various forms; ie if it is made by sony then try master password 'sony' + 28 spaces; try sonysonysonysonysonysonysonysony ; try it with capital S; try every variation you can think of.

The chances of success are pretty low, but its worth spending half an hour trying every password you can think of before paying to have it unlocked.

good luck :)

Hi.In a spanish forum(where i am from)a guy speaks about this password but for WD HDD.He says that his password is like D2 69 ...... .

Re: Unlock SEAGATE PIPLINE

the 'D2 69 ..' looks like the start of a hexidecimal string. There are scripts for the program mhdd that allow you to copy the security module of the secured area on some western digital hard disks to a file; this information is in hexidecimal and must be converted to recover the password. However i do not know of any scripts like this for seagate hard disks so this information is not really any use to you.

For your hard disk the only solution i know of is to guess the password or use expensive equipment.

Download hiren's boot cd which contains atapwd and i think mhdd as well. Boot your computer from the hirens boot cd and choose either atapwd or mhdd. Then use the option to unlock the drive with master password and try the 'Seagate + 25 spaces' password, and any others you can think of.

WD and SEAGATE are a total different drive.

So said, any decent professional with the right tooling can either ERASE your drive and unlock it for re-use OR unlock it.
It is highly possible that signing papers about property of the drive and responsibility will be required as nobody want to have trouble with law enforcement for this as the drive can be stolen or contain copyrighted material and would be a breaching of LA or RM to use them.

Wouldn't be nice to address all these requests on other better places ?

Check the security level first. If you unlock a drive with master password and security is set to max it starts an internal security wipe.

If security is set to max you will definately need some help with this. Dont even think about using any Master Passwords on it.
