ERR Read App Code - Override?

Hello I'm working on a ST98823AS drive with firmware version 8.03 and original PCB. In terminal I get the following message:

Interface task reset
4096k x 16 buffer detected
MERC2 - 1_Disk 3.00 01-
Buzz - 26-06 12:58
Head Mask 07,01 - Switch to full int.
Spin Ready
Dwell Cyl - 08BD/07CD/07D0
ERR Read App Code

I believe this means that a head is unstable. Is there a simple way to override this error and initialize the drive? I'm a bit of a noob and this is a favor to a friend who's daughter lost her pictures.

The SD manual has your solution...

He might not have access to the SD manual and tools. He sounds like he should actually seek professional help on this one. Not sure but he might of made his own termial adaptor to read the terminal output on this HDD.

I actually do have SD tools. I hadn't however consulted the "latest manual", and the old one I was reading didn't offer a solution. Thanks for pointing it out to me. The solution in the manual isn't working in my case. I'm afraid one of the heads might be toast. I think it stopped working after a drop so that would make sense. I'll have to track down a donor and try swapping the heads.
