Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi everyone,
I have a hitachi 5k500 2.5" SATA hard drive, and I can't get it recognized on the computer!
It spins up fine, no clicking or stuff like that, but it will not recognize. It freezes when attach to my SATA controller card and is not recognized when attached to the motherboard.
Any ideas? I was thinking maybe the PCB is bad and that I should get a replacement?, but I don't know whats the best spot to start looking for one.
Thanks!

Was it ever password protected?
Swapping the PCB will not help. If it's spinning, it's likely a System Area related issue, requiring professional assistance and equipment.

It was never password protected. It came out of a USB enclosure that I had, it stopped working one day

Is there any reading material about the HITACHI 5k500 system area that you might know of?

I'd say that there isn't much you can do on your own. Most of the time, these drives have head and/or surface issues. If your data is important to you, stop powering it on and get it assessed by a data recovery professional before it is too late.
