Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hello friends,
I have got in my hands one 1TB USB3 beast wich was dropped.
Of course there is no good way to image the drive using USB, but if i use the internal SATA (cable soldered to the line) i can image the drive but the content are encrypted. (Congratulation for WD for this beautiful idea!!!)
The drive have a lot of bads, it drives crazy the XP if i want to image it through USB and takes years....
Somebody have any good idea, how to decrypt my 99.999% drive image?
It have some "synewave" or what a f* usb to sata converter inside.
The drive supports passord protection by WD driver, but this was not protected.
Thanks a lot

Tried copying the image to a working disk, and attaching that one to the enclosure?

Won't help.
This is symwave not inic1607E
2 OP .
Solution is simple. You should take encrypted data through the symwave bridge back. On USB output you will get decrypted data.
If you read data directly via SATA why you couldn't connect drive via those SATA with a bit PCB transformation ?
But there is some nuance also , but i am sure you will get it.

Dr-Kiev,
I have figured out this too, but i want to ask before i do these atractive things just for try out...

Anyway i am not happy with that.
I am wondering there is any software wich can simulate the symwave instead on the image?
BTW if i connect one for example 1TB Seagate .11 to the back side, should be working with the symwave bridge?
What can we do if one time we will get one drive with dead symwave???

DR-Kiev,
Can you describe solutionwith encrypted WD-disk ?
Have a problem with external drive - after firmware did not power on, drive is ok(detecting, readable, without bads).
I can not see any partition(hardware encrypted ?), but DataResque can see and recover files only VCD partition with Smartware.
No passwords was set by SmartWare
Can you help me in this trouble with decryption ?
Thank you beforehand.
