Hitachi Dead Head

May 5th, 2011, 12:20

Hi,

I have seen and heard of people cleaning heads of drives. I have a Hitachi drive where head 0 was reading some data in the beginning of imaging, but gradually read less and less. Disabled that head and read in 100% data from head 1 and 2, but now am looking to get data from head 0. Was hoping to possibly do this with the patient heads, as donors are upwards of $180 (for a 120GB drive  ). Anyone care to share good techniques for cleaning heads? (Please avoid the need to sarcastically suggest "use a can of air" - I know that will only be drastic for the drive).

Regards,

Dizi

TBH i dont believe much in head cleaning. I mean i read that it can be done , but never did it myself. Just swap...
503 968 3125 try em. Rapid Technologies. Ask for Sam. See what he can do for u in getting the parts.
Also to get the matching parts for it dont worry overmuch about mlc. Get the same model and match the 2 top lines out of 4 on the sticker on the back of PCB. Works for me so far = )
