Toshiba HD in Trouble

Hi,
I like many others visiting this site, have had a mini disaster.
My HD has failed on me, I think this must have been caused by overheating, as something has failed in my laptop, and internal temperatures are sky high.

The next time I turned my laptop on with this drive, a high pitch
screaming came from my Hard Drive.
Now it is undetectable in my bios.

Hard Drive: Toshiba 80Gb, MK8025GAS, 2.5"

I have tried to access this through MHDD however no joy it is unable to detect my hard drive.
This was after booting from a USB CDROM, and trying to access the HD in my laptop, which is connected to the primary.
I ran enablePrimary command, but still no joy, can detect it.

From the sounds of it you guys have high level of experience with this.
So my options I can foresee now are to take it to a data recovery company $$$ or replace the controller board/PCB on the HD with one of a similar model(which I have already). (I'm not sure on the chances of success of this).

I have already been quoted A$1800 for recovery, which at present is
not an option unfortunately.

I was curious if there were any other alternatives. Or if replacing the
controller board might be a viable option. ??

All I want is my data....

By your description it sounds like the R/W head has damaged.

There is a good data recovery in Western Australia, it charges far less than A$1800. This guy used to work for Hard disk company Seagate in Singapore. My friend took the hard drive with damaged head and also a scratch on the disc, he recovered 90% of the data. You might want to give him a call on (08)9329 9118, not sure about his name or company.

Hi,

replacing the controller board will not help probably and if yes, you will still have a big problem with sector shifts.
It is rather hard to diagnose this case without actually at least hearing the sounds coming out of it.

Typical problem with Toshiba 2.5 inch.

1. pcb swap will not work - ever - with these drives.

2. this screech sound is from motor bearing problem.

3. solution is only to remove platters, heads and pcb to a donor
carcass.

4. This can only be done by expert with experience in Toshiba
and someone who has done many toshiba laptop drives.

5. don't try anything else it won't work.
