Maxtor OneTouch III 600GB External Drive

June 4th, 2011, 10:28

I have a Maxtor OneTouch III 600GB external drive. It contains 2 drives and appears to be a RAID 0 with a 64K stripe based on online product info (http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=189951&NewLang=en). I have not worked on one of these units before nor have I done any work with data recovery on RAID systems. The device is recognized by the OS but does not mount. I don't believe there to be a physical problem at this point.

My thought was to remove the 2 drives, image them, and attempt to rebuild the RAID using R-Studio or RAID Reconstructor.

Does this sound like the right plan of attack? Any feedback or recommendations would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave
