Seagare ST31000333AS - PCP

June 14th, 2011, 9:09

Hello members of the baord !

Problem:
- the BIOS does not show the HDD
- the pc needs a long time to boot
- windows does not show th disk
- the disk (if branchend) makes consistently a clack all 5-7 seconds

Therefore am looking for a PCP:

Seagate ST21000333AS
S/N: 6TE0755J
P/N: 9FZ136-568
FW: SD35
Date Code:09222
Site Code: SU

100512585 F M920K59W

The Seagate Custumer Service said, that this HD is excluded from the serie of
the defective HD. The HD contains very important informations and so I should like
try to recover the disk ..

Thanks for any good ideas,
J.Mohnen

This does not sound like a PCB failure

I saw SD35 drives with busy bug but the Clicking u are describing is defiantly NOT a symptom of bad FW.
U can record the clacking an link it here for us to hear. But most likely it is not a DIY job.

Your best option would be to take your drive into a pro to make a proper diagnosis, so you can understand what's your drive problem.

You can obtain a terminal report from your drive.

See the following thread, but don't enter any of the commands:

The following cable will probably be easier and safer to use than a Nokia CA-42 or any of its many variants:

Prolific USB to TTL Logic Cable (US$10):

AIUI, the following test should help you determine whether the drive has a head fault. However, I'm not a data recovery professional, so others can advise you on this procedure.

As stated on another post, you shouldn't run this last test if your data is important.
