Dead PCB - Any clues guys

I got this WD3200JS hdd and its dead no spinning @ all
the problem is that i do not have donor pcb (strange pcb # 701393)

and i wanted to fix it, i almost tried all and everything and i really dono where this might end
maybe the motor ic

I think that you have allready check all the protection diode, haven't you?

thnx nick_ct i got it,

i will order for sure, but i needed to repair it (its mine, i just bought few hundred hdd`s and repairing them)

and this is one of them

I notice that the MCU is a Marvell 88i6545-TFJ1. This appears to be similar to the 88i6745-TFJ1 which is used in the Tornados. Am I correct that your WD3200JS drive is also a Tornado?

As for troubleshooting, I would first verify the presence of the onboard voltages.

The Vio supply should be present on pin 8 of the serial flash chip at U12. It should also be present at the jumper block. The SDRAM would also receive the same supply on its right-side corner pins. I suspect that this Vio supply may be derived from the +5V input via transistor Q8. I believe its uppermost pin (emitter) should measure +3.3V.

Pins 4 and 6 of connector J1 look like they may be the +5V and -5V (?) supplies for the preamp. I suspect that the anode (non-striped end) of diode D4 would be the negative supply test point.

L2, R79, and C3 would be the Vcore test points for the MCU. I expect that you would measure around +1.35V.

If all these voltages test OK, then I would expect that the motor controller would probably be OK. That's because the SMOOTH chip also controls the DC-DC converters.

The next step would be to verify whether the SMOOTH chip has released the POR (Power On Reset) signal. I'd also confirm that the crystal (Y1) is oscillating, and that there is activity on the address and data busses of the SDRAM. Of course you'll need a scope for that.

Sorry, that should read "left-side corner pins".
