In my experience typically no, but these drives are a pain to recover data from. They may need a little playing around with. Also, for me, these drives often have a lot of damage as far as bad sectors, even in the SA. Frequently, the only way to recover is via hot swap.

Probably some alignment will be required.

Jono-ats is right. In my opinion all WD which secure the HSA through the screw in the top cover will need some alighnment.
