WD5000AAKB - Very slow read head 0

July 28th, 2011, 7:26

Hi,

We need some help...

We can read with head 1 and 2.

Data on head 0 are accessible but very slowly. If we use a 4096 block size read, we can't access data. If we use a 100-200 block size, we can read data but very slowly (+- 1500 hours).

SA are not defect, all module are correct.

Any idea ? HSA problem ? FW problem ?

Thanks

Could be a weak head or a failing PCB. Start by reprogramming a donor PCB and seeing if that helps. Switch to PIO mode and see how it goes there.

It would also be helpful to know what tool you are using to clone the drive.

Is the condition of the disk the same at the front and the back of the HDD?

On reading LBA does HDD loose readiness and constantly recalibrate?

We use atola.

Same problem in PIO mode and/or reverse.

But we can't read data after +- 400'000'000 sectors.

I think it could be a head problem
