7200.10 that hangs every 1m lbas

July 31st, 2011, 14:41

ST 3320620AS family galaxy 2D
the hard drive suffered from a lack of current on the pc, than started to malfunction.

by datacompass: it goes in ready, ID's, i can read every sectors i want.
try to image, it starts, goes well, than after 1.000.000 lba goes to busy and start to show only red sectors and it is like freezed.
i have to power-off and on manually then i can read again also the red sectors, but after about 1.000.000 secotrs, the same freezed.
try to decrease block size even to 4! but the same.increased quick-skip lba, same story.

changed pcb, same result.

on terminal it is in:

F>HM SFI
!

hd doctor do not allow me to backup firmware.

maybe some settings on imager, "on busy state " perform hard reset of the drive so that i do not have to do it manually?

You can reach ID, DRDY and read data while HDD is stuck at 'F>' ?

I do not think this is complete terminal log, you should post full log.

But what is problem with power cycling when stops reading? if it works then what is the problem?

For me, this is one of the easy ones :)

the problem is that the drive has about 670 milion secotors, and i have to do it manually about 670 times, off and ON and must wait till DC is ready again ( must also unplug usb cable!) so it takes about 5 minutes every time...a night mare!

log terminal is all, but if i press load info from hdd there is some more termial, will post later, anyway i can see that the drive, after minutes ( about 10) get T> but can't load cert.

I guess the problem here is Data Compass.

I own one and use it for data transfer from logical problems only. Wouldn't personally trust it with a seriously bad disk.

If you can post complete terminal maybe someone here can identify something useful from it that will help you.

If not, you have got 670 manual power cycles to get through.... :?

yeah you need a decent imager and learn how to use it.
