Unlocking Toshiba Drive

August 12th, 2011, 4:25

Hello,

Recently I ended up with HDD drive (TOSHIBA) with HDD Password on it (Locked by PC Bios).
I tried to talk to Notebook manufacturer, which told me to send whole notebook to Japan (which is rather impossible, because it will cost me few time more then new drive price).

I searched A LOT through internet and your forum in order to find answer to question ‘How to unlock it’. But find nothing (I found great topic about WD Drive unlocking)

Then I run on page A-FF which claims that they can remove password from ALL Toshiba drives, even without losing any data and without any additional hardware!

How it is possible that there is no info on internet about it, but it is possible to unlock all drives made by Toshiba ?

Because otherwise every stolen laptop / drive could be accessed.

The A-FF service require you to pay a fee (oh BTW the fact it is online doesn't mean it is ANONYMOUS....) , the same if you ask a professional with the right equipment and/or know how to do it : expect to sign a written statement for such request and maybe give an ID . For me and all the pros I know it works THIS way.

I guess people which want to recover data form hard drive (for ‘evil’ purposes) have their own ways, and don’t have to bother searching forums.

And I guess that nor of this is anonymous anyway (as Google can pretty closely locate us by providing IP address). I do not care about information because I have legitimate notebook (so I guess I also own HDD) more about it I’m worried about outside company accessing my data and I’m a bit angry that bios can lockup you HDD with ‘only they known pass’.

As for ‘pros’ removing such lock, then I do not know any, most of PC services tells that it is ‘impossible’ to remove hdd lock and to but new HDD from them.

I know that mostly it should be avoided to provide such information, but since I saw post on this forum about WD lock, I guessed that maybe I could received information here.

DR companies (at least a decent and professional one) have no time and would be a backfire to snoop on customer data while remote unlock work only on drive.

If you provide your location maybe we can address you to the nearest reputable pro !

This is BS. If they DON'T KNOW HOW or don't have the necessary gear it is their problem. Of course it is simpler to sell a new drive

... simply it is not always Sunday (and if it was for me, Sunday would have been banned from the calendar ;) )
