hello xanh,
I have connected the disk true usb to a windows box.
The disk clicks for 4 minutes and then spins down. Also the clicking stops.
The disk shows up in the device manager of windows as generic usb disk drive.
It also shows up in the disk manager of windows.
When i go to the disk with Datalife Guard of Western Digital it doesnt have smart and seems to be 0 Kb.
For so far it seems to be a read error.
It seems that WD hdd's have common issues with the PCB according google(heat)
The board gets hot indead. I did disammble the board and then connected it to the usb to my windows box and it was still hot.
I did this to troubleshoot if the head causes a short on the board.
I still dont know if the board is broke but it seems logical to me.
The history of the disk:
The disk is a windows xp disk and after a restart of the windows system it clicked.
When i think logical about it it has nothing to do with a headcrash because the system was reading fine before the restart.
Also the pcb gets hot and i think that it was already broke but still recorniced by the bios, after reboot the problem showed up.
The things im gone try:
Getting a spare drive ( same drive specs and within 2 weeks of production of the damaged one)
When i have te drive i will connect the spare drive to my system and boot it. After it booted and shows up in the device manager i will put the system to sleep for lets say 5 or 10 minutes. I will then dissamble the pcb of the spare and put it to the faulty drive.
After the swap i get the system out of sleep.
When i can then read the drive (because of bypassing the SA) i can get my data back, when i cant then i have to change the head with the head of the spare.
Please correct me if i'm wrong.
Thanks
