Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I am trying understand the structure of the p-list and translator modules.
I am looking at WDC Marvell disk where 99% of the sectors appear to have been set to 0xff. I feel it may be to do with the translator, possibly all pointing to incorrect locations.
Each module starts with ROYL, a series of numbers and then I presume the main data. The data appears to be pairs of 4 byte numbers, generally increasing in values.
Does anyone have details of how each number is used.
(I do have backup copies of all the original modules).
