Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 - heat damage?

August 15th, 2011, 17:44

I haven't had many old Maxtors come in. Got a 60GB in today that was sounding really rough as it spun up, heads hitting the limiter.

Turns out the platter is in a very bad way. The filter if full of ex-platter dust. I've not seen a platter in this state before. Heat damage from ongoing head contact?

Common on these models in my experience. Head crash and left powered on for some time.
