Hello all.
If you are able please help me out with this problem:
I am trying to install a Samsung Spinpoint F3 500Gb 7200 on an Abit Kn9 motherboard (sata 3Gb).
When I start the system the hdd is visible in bios. The win xp pro installation starts from the cd, I am able to make partitions and the needed files are being copied. After this it ask for restart. BUT after restart the system hangs for about 2-3 minutes. In this time I cannot access the bios. Finally it starts again but it boots from the cd and the hdd is not visible anymore for the system. If I restart it the problem is the same - the hdd is not visible anymore. This time the hdd is working (I listened it).
To make it visible again to the system I have to shutdown the computer and start it again. But the things from above are repeating (i1st time it starts ok, the 1st step of win xp installation is completed and after the needed restart the hdd disappears from bios and it is not visible untill I shutdown it complete).
I used no jumpers on the hdd. I changed the sata cable with no result.
Please advise me what to do.
Thanks a lot.

Unfortunately too many items to point at.
Besides a defect hdd it can be:
Power supply, ram, graphic card, cpu (no or loose fan), mainboard.
Daubt you will fix it on your own - and if yes, then by coincidence.

I changed the hdd mode from sata 300 to sata 150 using es tool from samsung and I managed to install it on another configuration on an old Asus a7v600-x with sata 150. It works, but when I change back to sata 300 and try to install it on the abit with sata 300 same problem. I will try it on another sata 300 config. Thanks for your reply.
