replacing PCB for recovery

Evening everyone. im about to send a harddrive in for recovery. But first i want to locate a similar drive so i can hand it in with the recovery.

My question is: what exactly do i need to match up when searching for the same harddrive?

The drive in question is a Hitachi Deskstar

I've found several drives on ebay with the matching model: HDS722580vlat20, but none of the other pieces match. I've also found a few sites that might have this item (for a lot of money).


In case anyone is wondering what is wrong with the drive. I ever so slightly nudged it reaching for something. now it just clunks over and over again.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It won't be a PCB problem.

Also any decent DR firm will have spare heads for this common drive.

Thanks for the response pcimage. most of the data recovery places i called mentioned they may need to order the drive in. so i just figured anything i could provide them with would make this painful process faster.

having another similar is good but will not ALWAYS help

Heya m8. Ill pm my cell to u and explain the situation. The description that you are giving sounds more mechanical then electronic. Also prepare urself for killer prices we have in the area =) There are some ppl on this forum ( Luke and Jono to name a few ) who charge less then our company.
