WD 800JD Motor fail?

September 16th, 2011, 15:02

Hi,
I've got this drive after it someday failed to spin up (immediately after power on).
PCB doesn't seem bad at a glance.

Here is the recorded sound of this drive while trying to spin up:

Is DIY possible?

Thanks :-)

Sorry for my english :-)

Really difficult to tell if DIY or not.
Not getting a good sense of the sound recorded.

Are you aware of any power surges that may have taken place?
Any other questionable behavior prior to failure?

After hdd fail computer still works correctly, so I don't think this is matter of any power surges... This computer was normally shut down.

Well, then it seems like a failure of the read-write heads. Not a DIY.
