Hardrive Failure Help

September 18th, 2011, 11:05

Hi

My Toshiba C650 Hardrive Was making some noises over the last few days and now its not loading the OS or anything. I have an old laptop an Advent 7201 It has a 160gb hardrive thats WD Scorpio Blue and the Toshiba laptop has a Toshiba Disk Drive MK2565GSX.

Is there any way i could swap the harddrives round because when i put the Advent HD in the Toshiba it comes back with a blue screen but its only on for a few seconds and cant read what it says.

Do you think the Advent HD will work in my Toshiba somehow ?

Thanks

That blue screen might be some OS drive issue, as probably the OS and hardware are quite different between both PC's.
What's the OS in both PC's?

The bluescreen is probably because of hardware-driver missmatch so it's worth backing up your data and giving it a go at a fresh install

1st, back up your data if any is important.

2nd, if you want to install new OS, then there is no need to wipe the drive as the newly installed OS will write over the old data.

If you insist on wiping the drive, then you can do a full format with Win 7 and it will wipe all residual data. If you prefer to wipe prior to new OS installation, then you can look into free utilities such as MHDD (erase command). You can find MHDD for download in the software section of hddguru.

Hardware and driver compatibility is the problem. All previous posters have been telling you this.

I suggested advice with regard to wipping.

It should work, yes.
Be sure to make the laptop boot from the Windows 7 DVD if you want to format the harddrive and do a fresh operating system install.

This is a screenshot from the Windows 7 install procedure. It's pretty self explanatory

Good luck!
